Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Juventus came as a shock to almost everybody.

After nine dominant seasons with Real Madrid, it was all over so suddenly, with the 33-year-old having done little more than hint at the potential for a move ahead of leaving Los Blancos for Turin.

But Ronaldo wasn't the first player to shake up the world by switching teams.

For his third Champions League title in a row, and his fourth in five years, Ronaldo hinted at a move away from Real Madrid, but it was still a shock on July 10 when Madrid announced that their star man would be moving to Juventus. The Italian club built a deal that will cost €100m (£88m/$117m) plus €12m (£10.5m/$14m) in additional charges, a king's ransom for 33-year-old, but the Serie A giants feel the price is well worth it to land on the top players of all time.

United appointed their former striker as boss until the end of the season on Wednesday, a day after Mourinho was dismissed.

Solskjaer, 45, takes over with United sixth in the Premier League.

The Norwegian told MUTV that he wanted to see the players "express themselves" during the rest of the campaign.

"We will get the players enjoying football and looking forward to seeing the supporters again," he said.

Mourinho was sacked after no progress with results or style despite spending nearly £400m on 11 players in two and a half seasons in charge, while many of United's performances this season have lacked fluency.
